Hot water heaters blow,
dishwasher hoses break, pipes freeze & burst. Water is everywhere….what do you
do???
Time is of the essence in water damage claims. It is
very important to act promptly. Water can do substantial damage in a very
short period of time. Even clean water can generate mildew and other
bacterial growth. |
Ø
Be careful of
electrical shocks. Remove as much excess water as possible by mopping and blotting.
DO NOT use your regular household vacuum cleaner to remove water. Ø
Maintain
normal room temperature; above 68 degrees. Open windows in cool weather to
speed the drying process. In hot weather switch on air conditioning (if it is
safe). Ø
Place aluminum
foil under the legs of furniture. Ø
Remove
pictures & art objects that may absorb moisture. Ø
Turn on
exhaust fans in the kitchen & bathroom to help remove moisture. DO NOT
switch on any ceiling fixture or fans if the ceiling is wet. Ø
DO NOT use
TV’s, radios, computers or any electrical appliance while standing on
wet carpets or floors, particularly concrete or tile floors; or any appliance
that has been water soaked. Ø
Open drawers and
cabinets (but do not force) for quicker drying. Remove contents if damp. IMMEDIATELY call us to report the
loss if it is during normal business hours. If after hours, call a fire and water
restoration company (there
are many listed in the yellow pages). Most of them have a 24 hour emergency
response. These companies have
the expertise and equipment needed to minimize the damage. However, some restoration companies
may require you to pay your deductible up front, so be prepared. You can then report the loss to us
the next business day so we can notify your carrier. |
